China Bar Signature Buffet

I was in Melbourne for a weekend and visited China Bar Signature Buffet. It’s better than Feast at Sheraton on the Park, which made me sad, as I’m in Sydney!!

Sunshine Bun

Sunshine Bun

I had to have a sunshine bun. Delicious! China Bar had a whole section of dim sum, including dumplings, steamed buns, rice noodle rolls, and plenty of other nice dishes.

Sashimi, cut to order

Sashimi, cut to order

At night, China Bar serves fresh to order sashimi along with their range of sushi, seaweed salad and other classic dishes. There’s pickled ginger, soy sauce and wasabi on hand. The clams were beautiful, as were the other types of fish available (there was so much variety!)

Hainanese Chicken and Peking Duck Pancakes

Here is some delicate Hainanese chicken, as well as a couple of Peking duck pancakes. Peking duck, though, really needs to be made fresh.

There was plenty more food in this section but sadly I did not have enough room for more!

The desserts here were excessive. These three plates show the majority… but not everything! There was a great range of Asian inspired and every day desserts which were cute and usually served in individual bowls.

They were fantastic. I love that the buffet wasn’t let down by boring dessert as is usually the case!

Seafood

Seafood

Pickled calamari with cucumber, oysters (nice and big!), smoked salmon, prawns (shelled for once!) and a big juicy half crab.

Congee Preserved Calamari and Sesame Bun

Congee Preserved Calamari and Sesame Bun

Yummy congee with some salted egg and preserved pork, a chicken sesame bun and weird preserved calamari. All tasty.

There was also a deep-fried section, a salad section, curries, cheese and bread, and plenty of other food I haven’t shown here. I was flabbergasted when I saw the range, comparing it to the Sheraton, which was around $20 more per head! It’s hard to compare the two as China Bar had a range of food, and it was still really good quality.

If you live in Victoria, lucky you. I’m so jealous! This was so much fun.
